6 Steps to a Less Depressing Day

However, there are many things that can be done to ease this burden, and the following 6 steps are a good place to start. 1. Shower

Taking a shower everyday not only ensures that you are maintaining good, personal hygiene, but it will also relax and soothe your body and mind.

2. Eat 5 times per day

Maintaining a healthy, balanced diet will contribute to your overall well-being, and give your body more energy. Making sure you eat enough protein in particular will help to decrease feelings of sluggishness and fatigue.

3. Talk to someone outside of your household for 5 minutes

Creating contact with the outside world is very important in helping you to stay motivated about life, and preventing your depression from keeping you locked away from the world. Having contact with others can also be very stimulating and rewarding, helping to decrease feelings of loneliness and isolation.

4. Plan something fun for 30 minutes

Taking this kind of time for yourself each day can really boost your mood and create more energy. If you have a difficult time even coming up with a fun activity, try to start making a list of things you’ve wanted to try or used to enjoy in the past. Even things as simple as taking a bath, reading a book, working on an artistic project, or getting a massage are all things that can take your mind off of your depressing thoughts and make your day more manageable.

5. Exercise

Participating in daily exercise will increase your endorphins, generating more energy both physically and mentally. While exercising may seem like an impossible task, try to get at least a 15 minute walk in every day.

6. No naps

Regular sleep is important to the full functioning of your body and brain. Try to refrain from taking naps during the day, and allow yourself to get a full night’s sleep. If you’re having trouble sleeping at night, there are many different things you can do depending on your situation, and it might be worth speaking to a professional about your options.Depression is such a difficult thing that it  should not be handled alone.
