It’s easy to get stuck in the same conversations, saying the same things, but not feeling heard. Couples therapy helps you step out of those patterns, understand what’s underneath the conflict, and respond to each other in a different way.

Understanding Couples Therapy
-
No. Many couples come in to improve communication, feel more connected, or stay aligned through life changes. You don’t have to wait until things feel overwhelming.
-
That’s okay. Therapy can help you talk honestly about where you are, understand each other more clearly, and make thoughtful decisions about what comes next — even if that’s ending the relationship.
-
This is very common. Therapy creates space for both partners to be heard, even if you’re coming in with different levels of motivation. It can also help you better understand your own needs and decide how you want to move forward, even if your partner’s level of engagement doesn’t change.
-
No. The goal isn’t to decide who’s right or wrong. Therapy focuses on understanding patterns and helping both partners feel heard and respected.
-
Yes. We work with couples of all identities and relationship structures, including LGBTQ+ couples and those in non-traditional or polyamorous relationships. Our approach is inclusive, respectful, and tailored to your relationship.
-
Sessions are shaped by your goals and what’s coming up in your relationship. While each therapist has their own approach, they help create space for both of you to be heard, slow things down when needed, and better understand what’s happening between you.
-
It depends on your goals. Some couples come for a short period, while others choose ongoing support as they continue to grow.
-
No. Couples therapy can be a starting point on its own. In some cases, your couples therapist may recommend individual therapy if there are personal concerns that would be helpful to address alongside or before continuing couples work.
-
To avoid conflicts of interest, we recommend having separate therapists for individual and couples work.
This helps ensure that both partners have a space where they feel fully supported, and that the couples therapist can remain neutral and focused on the relationship.

ABOUT WASATCH FAMILY THERAPY
Wasatch Family Therapy has been supporting individuals, couples, and families since 2002. Our therapists provide a calm, neutral space where both partners can feel heard, understood, and respected.
Couples therapy is not about taking sides or deciding who is right. It’s about understanding the patterns in your relationship, improving how you communicate, and finding a healthier way forward — whatever that looks like for you.
As a private pay practice, we’re able to focus on what matters most: your relationship, your goals, and the kind of support that feels right for both of you. This allows for greater flexibility, privacy, and a more personalized approach to care.
